Why private health insurance?
Taking out private health insurance can have many advantages including prompt care and attention, so you can get appropriate treatment quickly, access to a wider choice of hospitals and the peace of mind knowing that the financial burdens relating to a stay in hospital are taken care of.
If I change from my current insurer, will my waiting periods start again?
No, there is no break in cover if you switch from another Irish health insurer. We will recognise all the time you have spent with that insurer and you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your cover continues.
What are waiting periods?
Everyone who joins QUINN-healthcare has immediate cover for an accident or injury and for out-patient costs incurred after joining. As with all Irish health insurers waiting periods for other cover may apply. A waiting period is the length of time you need to have health insurance before availing of cover. What happens when I am in hospital?
If you are referred by your GP to a consultant, let them know that you have private health insurance. If you then need to go into hospital remember to bring your membership card with you, as you may be asked to complete a claim form in hospital. The hospital then sends us the bills and in most cases we settle these bills directly with the hospital. We will send you an explanation of what has been paid and to whom.
What are out-patient benefits?
Out-patient costs refer to medical expenses that you pay yourself on a day to day basis for example GP fees, consultant visits or physiotherapy. The different treatments we cover and the amounts you can claim for each of them are listed in the out-patient section of each scheme. There are no waiting periods for out-patient cover. With some exceptions, an excess will apply to these out-patient claims.
How can I claim back on my out-patient costs e.g. GP or physiotherapy receipts?
At the end of your membership year you should call us for an out-patient claim form or download one from our website. Simply sign the claim form and send it along to us with your original receipts.
What are direct payment centres?
At our QUINN-healthcare approved direct payment centres, we pay the full cost for MRI , Breast MRI , PET, CT, Mammograms and DEXA scans. These scans need to be on GP or consultant referral. All you need to do is show your QUINN-healthcare membership card and we pay the centre directly. You may also need to sign a claim form.
